Meet Melitza Velez

When I was approached by my friend Bernice and asked if I wanted to write for the Diapursity blog I was both excited and slightly nervous. What would I write about? Do I have something to say that others would be interested in?  She assured me there is plenty within me to share with others! Maybe that was a hint that I talked her ear off a time or two!

I’m a social worker by trade and I’ve seen and heard many people’s struggles and also their victories throughout the years. The most rewarding part by far is seeing people move forward towards their goals.  I absolutely love what I do but my job doesn’t make me immune from the struggles of life.  Is it not ironic that the hardest struggles to work through and the hardest victories to battle are my own?  I struggled for many years in finding my voice. Years of insecurity finally caught up to me making me feel insignificant. What if I said something and wasn’t heard? Rampant thoughts and feelings running wild in my heart were buried deep and struggled to find their path out into the open air. Can you relate?

I’m just an average woman trying to figure it out just like the rest. I have a decent job, volunteer, laugh, cry, love, share, and have hopes and dreams but like so many others, I’ve also experienced frustrations and struggled with understanding God’s timing. I’ve known heartbreak and I have allowed my thoughts to get the best of me. I’m like you, strong, independent, silly, vulnerable, and insecure at times. I dance around my house and catch myself talking to myself (ok, maybe I’m over sharing).

I’m looking forward to getting to know you, yes, even the silly things. After all, it’s what makes me who I am and what makes you, YOU!   I hope you’ll join me. I want to hear about your goals, dreams, challenges, and how you overcome them.  You are significant and your voice is important just like I learned mine is as well.  I hope your words will also find their path out into the open air.

Melitza Velez holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Social  Work and is a Licensed Clinical  Social Worker.  She has 20 years of experience in Social Services and is highly involved in her community.  She’s worked with many organizations spreading the message of hope, encouragement, and new beginnings.

Most importantly Meli, as her close friends call her,  is a wonderful daughter, sister, and friend! We are so proud to have her join our team.  Her heart and her voice is one you’ll enjoy hearing from.
